Similar to the 1971 avowal of many female celebrities and non-celebrities: “I’ve had an abortion”, which caused a societal discussion and turned into the organ for millions of women, the avowal, “my life is godless and church-free”, could make those voices heard that now still imagine themselves as isolated exceptions.
Scientific studies have concluded that the church resp. the faith in god meets emotional functions which cannot always be resolved by rational arguments. But it is not necessary to believe in god in order to lead a life fulfilled with meaning. If therefore enough people of every stripe – the working woman as well as the superstar – recount the story of their godless life and thus show others how (well) they live with it, that may reduce their fear of confronting themselves with the contradictions within the system called religion and eventually leave it. At least they could learn that they are not alone with their attitude.
